Josh Gad graduated from the School of Drama’s acting program in 2003. An award-winning actor, singer, comedian, writer and producer, Gad has made a significant impact on popular culture through his roles in Broadway, film and television productions. He is best known for voicing Olaf in the “Frozen” franchise, and for his roles in the original Broadway productions of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” “The Book of Mormon” and “Gutenberg: The Musical!” Gad has also starred in multiple TV series including “Wolf Like Me,” “Avenue 5,” “The Comedians” and “Central Park,” the last of which he co-created and produced under his Angry Child Productions banner. He has more than 40 film credits to his name including “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Wedding Ringer,” “Marshall” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Ted Danson

HONORARY DOCTOR OF FINE ARTS, 2018

Ted Danson is an American actor best known for his role as Sam Malone on the hit TV series “Cheers” (1982–1993), which earned him multiple Emmy Awards and Golden Globe nominations. He later starred in “The Good Place” (2016–2020), where his portrayal of the character Michael received widespread acclaim. He can currently be seen on the new Netflix comedy “A Man on the Inside,” for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Danson received the Carol Burnett Award at the 82nd Golden Globes. He earned his BFA from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 1972 and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts in 2018. His career spans both comedy and drama, with notable roles in films and television shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and Fargo. Outside of acting, he is a passionate advocate for environmental issues.

Krista Marie Yu is best known for her roles on television. She played the main role of Molly Park on the ABC family sitcom Dr. Ken. In August 2018, it was announced that she would play the recurring role of Jen on Fox’s Last Man Standing. On January 18, 2019, Fox announced that Yu had been promoted to series regular.

Most recently, Krista has played Elaine Kim on Hulu’s Reboot.

Larry Powell is a true multi-hyphenate artist born and raised in South Central LA. As an Award-Winning Actor he has premiered fierce new plays like The Christians by Lucas Hnath, The Legend of Georgia McBride by Matthew Lopez, Father Comes Home From The Wars by Suzan Lori Parks, Brokeology by Nathan Louis Jackson, While I Yet Live by Billy Porter, Curve of Departure by Rachel Bonds, Seared by Theresa Rebeck, The Flower Thief by Pia Wilson, Bronzeville by Aaron Woolfolk and Tim Toyama, and many seasons at Obie Winning Fire This Time Festival. Most recently on screen he has enjoyed playing Rick James on MGM+’s upcoming Hotel Cocaine. As a Writer, he is the recipient of the 2021 IAMA Theatre Company Shonda Rhimes Unsung Voices Playwriting Award, 2020 Cornelia Street Playwriting Award, and is an inaugural 2021 Circle of Confusion Writers Discovery Fellow. His play “The Gaze”, a 2021 O’Neill NPC finalist, is also an award-winning digital series. “The Gaze Series” is a two-time 2021 Daytime EMMY Award Nominee, 2021 Webby Award Honoree and 2021 Micheaux Film Festival’s Best Comedic Digital Series Winner. He also Wrote/Directed/Starred In/Produced his debut experimental feature film project “Mother’s Milk: A Film Quilt” (2021 Seattle International Film Festival’s New American Cinema Special Jury Prize). He’s a Staff Writer for Four Seasons on hit, 2x EMMY Nominated TV Sitcom “The Ms. Pat Show” (BET+). As a Director, he recently directed Josh Wilder’s “Marty and The Hands That Could” for WACO Theater Center/Watts Village Theatre, and the 2023 Best Audio Drama Audie award winning audio recording of Dominique Morisseau’s “Pipeline” for L.A. Theatre Works. He was the Associate Producer/Casting Director for the 2023 Best Audiobook Nom Audie audio adaption of the graphic novel WAKE by Rebecca Hall. Director/Writer of “Strong Friend, Let Go” (2023 Micheaux Film Fest Dramatic Short – Best Writing winner). You may even catch his cameo in Calmatic’s “White Men Can’t Jump” opposite Jack Harlow. Christian M. Strange

BFA ACTING/MUSIC THEATER, 2018

Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Christian graduated from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama, a renowned institution known for producing top-tier performers.

In 2023, Christian made his Broadway debut in the critically acclaimed revival of the musical Merrily We Roll Along. His performance garnered attention from industry professionals and media outlets including: Playbill, Deadline, and ABC News. Christian’s ability to captivate audiences with his magnetic presence has solidified his status as a rising star.

Christian’s versatility as an actor is evident in his work beyond the Broadway stage. He has delivered outstanding performances in Off-Broadway productions such as Sunday at the Atlantic Theater Company and The Butcher Boy at the Irish Rep. These roles showcased his range and ability to embody diverse characters.

Outside of New York City, Christian has left a lasting impression on regional theaters across the country. His portrayal of Hamlet at Santa Cruz Shakespeare and his performance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream are just a few examples of his talent and dedication. Christian also made a memorable appearance at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in I Heart Juliet.

Will Reynolds

BFA ACTING/MUSIC THEATER 2005

As an actor, Will worked with Stephen Sondheim in the NYC revival of PASSION at Classic Stage directed by John Doyle. Other New York credits include Tony Kushner’s THE ILLUSION (directed by Michael Mayer) and the Off-Broadway production of DADDY LONG LEGS. He’s worked at The Old Globe, Seattle’s 5th Avenue, Goodspeed, Walnut Street, and was seen across North America in the Broadway tour of MAMMA MIA!

As a composer, he’s a recipient of the Fred Ebb Award and recently released the acclaimed Studio Cast Recording of his musical THE VIOLET HOUR with collaborator Eric Price (starring Santino Fontana, Jeremy Jordan, Erika Henningsen, Solea Pfeiffer, and Brandon Uranowitz.)

His music has been recorded by 6-time Tony winner Audra McDonald, and he’s a featured songwriter on the animated series CENTRAL PARK (AppleTV+). His work has been performed at or developed by Lincoln Center, Manhattan Theatre Club, The Kennedy Center, Signature Theatre (DC), The Stratford Festival, Goodspeed, 54 Below, Birdland, Joe’s Pub, NAMT, NYMF, The Houston Symphony, and more.

Will has been a high-demand performance coach for hundreds of actors for over 10 years, and has been on faculty at Pace University, Molloy College/CAP 21, Hussian College, Actor Therapy, MTCA (Musical Theatre College Auditions) a guest artist at Carnegie Mellon University, Marymount Manhattan College, Wagner College, and Penn State University. Will’s students have gone on to perform on Broadway, Off-Broadway, in national tours, and major regional houses around the country.

Will is the creator of the Inspired Actions Method™ (I.A.M.).

Renée Elise Goldsberry

BFA ACTING/MUSIC THEATER, 1997

A graduate of CMU’s Music Theater program (BFA, 1993), Renée Elise Goldsberry is a multi-award winning actress, singer, and songwriter with a dynamic range of roles on stage and screen. Best known for her Tony and Grammy Award-winning performance as Angelica Schuyler in the musical “Hamilton,” she has also starred on Broadway in “The Color Purple,” “The Lion King,” and “Rent.” After graduating with her Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California in 1997, Renée started acting with a recurring role on “Ally McBeal,” appearing on 43 episodes. Since then, Renée has had a variety of roles across film and television, including “One Life to Live,” “She Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and the titular role in “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.” Her performance in “Hamilton” was immortalized as a Disney+ live stage recording, which garnered her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. 

Currently, Renée can be seen on Netflix’s “Girls5Eva,” which has landed her two consecutive nominations for Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. CMU awarded Renée an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree in May 2024.

Kennedy McMann

BFA ACTING/MUSIC THEATER, 2018

Since graduating from the School of Drama in 2018, Kennedy McMann has forged a successful career in television. With appearances in “Law & Order SVU” and “Gone,” Kennedy is best known for her work on television as the titular character of the CW’s “Nancy Drew” opposite Scott Wolf. The series premiered in October 2019, and after four seasons, ended in August 2023.

In March 2023, McMann appeared as Joni DeGroot — a lawyer who has obsessive compulsive disorder — in the Good Doctor episode “The Good Lawyer.” 

Her upcoming projects include AMC’s “The Terror: Devil in Silver,” in which she plays the younger version of a character played by Judith Light, a fellow CMU alum. She will also star in the independent feature comedy “Brewmance” opposite SNL’s Alex Moffat.

Telly Leung

BFA ACTING/MUSIC THEATER, 2002

Before graduating from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 2002, Telly grew up in a traditional Chinese home in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where he was a student of New York’s prestigious math & science specialized high school, Stuyvesant High School.  

During his time as a student at CMU, Telly met fellow CMU-alum and Tony-Award winner, Billy Porter, who returned to his alma mater to direct the main stage production of Sondheim’s “Company.” After casting Telly as Bobby in “Company,” Billy made a phone call to his colleagues who were involved in the upcoming Broadway revival of “Flower Drum Song” and landed Telly an audition. In the fall of 2002, Telly made his Broadway debut in the revival of “Flower Drum Song”, starring Lea Salonga, as a member of the ensemble and an understudy for Wang Ta. 

Since then, Telly has gone on to star in Broadway productions including “Pacific Overtures,” “Rent,” “Godspell,” “Allegiance,” “In Transit,” and as the title character in Disney’s “Aladdin.” Telly has performed live all over the world in venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Hollywood Bowl, Tokyo’s Theatre Orb, The Baltimore Symphony, the St. Louis MUNY, Shakespeare Theater Company (DC), Pittsburgh CLO, Paper Mill Playhouse, Dallas Theater Center, Philadelphia Theater Company, Sacramento Music Circus, the Old Globe, Ford’s Theater, North Carolina Theater, Four Seasons Theater, North Shore Music Theater, The Coterie in Los Angeles, The Magic Castle, NYC’s Feinstein’s / 54 Below, Birdland Jazz Club, and London’s Hippodrome. 

Telly has appeared on television as Marcel, the nomadic Chinese singer, in “Warrior” on HBO Max, “Glee” (as Wes of the Dalton Academy Warblers) on Fox, “Instinct” (CBS), “Odd Mom Out” (Bravo), “Deadbeat” (Hulu), “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (USA) and played Kevin in the pilot of ABC’s performing arts drama, “Limelight.” He was also heavily featured in the PBS documentary “Broadway or Bust” as a teacher and performance coach for the Jimmy Awards, and he was a presenter on the 2022 telecast of the 75th Annual Tony Awards on CBS.

Simone Joy Jones

BFA ACTING & MUSIC THEATER, 2021

Even though she just graduated from CMU’s BFA Music Theater program in 2021, Simone Joy Jones has had a long professional career as both an actress and a singer. Simone made her Broadway debut in 2010 in the revival production of “The Miracle Worker” opposite Abigail Breslin; she had her feature film debut shortly after in “The Son of No One” starring Al Pacino and Channing Tatum. While at CMU, Simone received the 2021 John Arthur Kennedy Award for Excellence in Acting or Music Theater. 

Since graduation, Simone has continued working in film and television, as well as jumpstarting her musical career under the name S!MONE. She recently starred in the remake of “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” and can be seen in one of the main roles on “Bel-Air,” Peacock’s reboot of the classic ‘90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Her single “We ft.DanSully” and EP “Divine Mistakes” can be found on all streaming platforms.
