Kaycee Swierc (she/her) is a Tex-Mex director drawn to shows that interrogate urgent American systems through theatricality and precision. Her work lives in the tension between entertainment and confrontation, driven by a fast-paced approach that empowers audiences to stay engaged as they reckon with the world around them. A recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University’s MFA Directing program, she also holds a BFA in Acting from Texas State University (‘20). Recent projects include Disney’s Frozen and Dear Evan Hansen (AD, The Muny), Noises Off (AD, Pittsburgh Public Theater), Much Ado About Nothing (AD, American Players Theatre), Half World (Director, East Village Basement), Epiphany (Director, Tampa Bay Theatre Festival, Winner: Best Play), Gloria (Director, Carnegie Mellon), and Hurricane Diane (Director, Carnegie Mellon).
Kaycee was the Special Assistant to the Artistic Director (Diane Paulus) at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, where she assistant-directed on Jagged Little Pill (Broadway and North American Tour) and WILD (A.R.T.), and contributed to major productions including 1776 and Becoming a Man. She served as a casting director and producer at the National Women’s Theater Festival, overseeing more than 50 plays. Dedicated to arts activism, Kaycee has led initiatives to support student voter engagement and produced virtual fundraiser cabarets benefiting social justice organizations, including Black Lives Matter, NOW, Georgia Stand Up, and Arts for Biden/Harris.
