Anya Hilpert (she/they) is a director of modern and new plays. She is passionate about uplifting work that centers young women and queer stories. This is driven by a fascination with exploring the inner emotional lives of young teenage women and what it means to be socialized as a girl. Her directing credits include: Mary-Kate Olsen is in Love by Mallery Avidon (CMU Drama, 2025), Horse Girls (CMU Studio Theatre, 2024), There Are No Diving Pools in Hell by Aliza Jane Cosgrove (Fish Tank Productions, 2024). She has worked as Assistant or Associate Director on: A Trip To The Moon Book, by Adam J. Rineer (PRISM Festival of New Queer Musicals, 2024), Dance Nation by Clare Barron (CMU Drama, 2022), Godspell by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz (CMU Drama, 2023), Geomancy by JP Berry (Playground New Works Festival, 2022), and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin and William Finn (CMU Drama, 2022). Hilpert has also worked in administrative positions at Vineyard Theater Company and Off Square Theater Company.
