Kelly Trumbull
Kelly Trumbull is a Pittsburgh-based actor, director, playwright, and educator. She serves on the faculty of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama, where she teaches Acting I, and is a Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Pittsburgh.
As a director, Trumbull has worked with City Theatre Company, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Pitt Stages, New Hazlett Theater, and Resonance Works. As an actor, she has appeared with Pittsburgh CLO, Quantum Theatre, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Bricolage, Real/Time Interventions, City Theatre Company, and Pitt Stages, as well as in numerous film, television, and commercial projects.
Her work as a playwright includes Morning Reckoning and Parental Consent. Morning Reckoning was developed through the New Hazlett Theater’s Community Supported Art Performance Series and later received a full production at Pitt Stages. Parental Consent has received multiple developmental readings and was named a semifinalist for the Seven Devils New Play Foundry. From 2024–2026, Trumbull was a member of the Pittsburgh Public Theater Playwrights Collective, where she developed new work alongside a cohort of Pittsburgh playwrights.
Trumbull is also the co-founder, with Julia Kreutzer, of Incline Theater Collaborative, a Pittsburgh-based company dedicated to creating opportunities for local playwrights to develop and share new work.
Her teaching and directing practice is rooted in Stanislavski-based techniques, with a particular focus on Active Analysis, ensemble building, and helping actors develop a present, imaginative, and grounded approach to the work.
She holds a BFA in Acting from Syracuse University and an MA in Educational Theatre from New York University and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association, SAG-AFTRA, and the Dramatists Guild.
