Within CMU’s School of Drama, Jackie teaches and mentors students across a range of lighting and design areas, with a focus on connecting foundational design principles to contemporary professional practice. Courses include Design for the Stage (Time-Based Media), Concert Lighting Design, Lighting Design for TV & Film, Advanced Vectorworks, Musical Lighting Design, and Architainment Lighting Design. Jackie also mentors students through their individual design processes and professional development, helping them develop both the technical fluency and critical design thinking necessary to work across entertainment disciplines.
Jackie is a multidisciplinary designer whose work spans lighting, scenic, and conceptual design, with research interests in aesthetics, creativity, and demystifying the artistic process. Jackie holds an MFA in Stage Design from Northwestern University and brings a diverse educational background that includes experience as a K–12 music educator. As both an artist and educator, Jackie believes that the best art is disruptive, subversive, and pushes us to examine the most difficult elements of lived experience. Her classrooms are rooted in the value of the artistic process, a commitment to expansive ideologies, and our deeply human pursuit of curiosity.
