David is the faculty advisor to student Technical Directors on School of Drama productions. He teaches Production Planning, Studiocraft – CAD, Scenic Fabrication & Installation, Stage Rigging Concepts, Technical Direction 1, Technical Direction 3, and Entertainment Rigging. David also advises graduate Technical Direction students on their Monograph projects. During the summer he is the coordinator of the Design & Production Pre-College Program.


David has appeared at places like The Yale Repertory Theatre/School of Drama, Maine State Music Theatre, Hudson Scenic Studios, Chicago Scenic Studios, and Cirque Du Soleil’s “O” at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Positions with those companies included: carpenter, rigger, welder, mechanic, technical director, and project manager.

David is an ETCP recognized rigging instructor, a certified rigger (theatre), and Subject Matter Expert for the formulation of the certification program. He is also a member of the ESTA Technical Standards Program Rigging Working Group. David has been featured at USITT and KCACTF as a presenter, an author in Stage Directions and Lighting and Sound America, and is the blogmaster for the News From the Real World blog (cmuptm.blogspot.com). He holds OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certifications.

A long time ago David was a trumpet player in the Carnegie Mellon Kiltie Band, on the Booth Committee of the SDC, and eventually Co-Captain of “Mr. Yuk” the CMU Ultimate Frisbee team (competing at Collegiate Nationals three years). More recently Professor Boevers has been a Drama representative to the Faculty Senate, a Drama rep to the CFA College Council, faculty member of the School of Drama Sustainability Committee, and a member of the Provost’s Assessment Taskforce.
