Associate Professor of Scenic Design


Chelsea M. Warren is a multimedia artist with a focus on scenic & puppet design, as well as new work, devised work, and spectacle theater.

Scenic design credits include Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Penumbra Theatre, Jungle Theater, Ananya Dance Theatre, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Victory Gardens Theatre, Studio Theatre, Cleveland Play House, Geva Theatre Center, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Philadelphia Theatre Company and Steep Theatre. Puppet design work at companies & festivals including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Jungle Theater, Studio Theatre, Links Hall, Chicago International Puppet Festival and New York State Puppet Festival.

Chelsea’s goal as an instructor is to provoke students to find their voice, model approach & practice, instigate revelation and promote a brave classroom laboratory. She is a member of USA 829, where she is also the co-chair of the Scenic Design Category Committee. She is an ensemble member with Steep Theatre, a member of the Steering Committee of the Michael Merritt Awards, was the co-founder of Yellow House a devised theatre company based in Chicago and Stones/Air an artist collective in South Australia. She was the recipient of the Michael Maggio Emerging Designer Award. Chelsea received her MFA from Northwestern University with a focus on costume and scenic design. She previously taught at DePaul University, the University of Chicago and Northwestern University; as well she held the position of Lecturer at Columbia College Chicago and Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
