BFA SOUND DESIGN, 1997

Peter Hylenski has had a long, award-winning career as a sound designer since graduating from the School of Drama’s BFA Sound Design program in 1997. He has provided sound designs for more than 30 Broadway productions including “Beetlejuice,” “King Kong,” “Frozen,” “Once on this Island” and “Motown the Musical.” He received his first Tony nomination in 2009 for his sound design for “Rock of Ages”, and currently holds the record for the most nominations in the category at 8. He won his first Tony at the 74th Tony Awards for “Moulin Rouge! The Musical”, and has also been nominated for Olivier, Grammy and Drama Desk awards.

Peter has designed for Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and the Kennedy Center. Some of his television credits include “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary.” He has also engineered advertising music for companies such as Sony, Levi’s, General Mills, Kia and Mercedes-Benz.

Some of his other credits include “Le Reve” at Wynn Las Vegas, “Ragtime” (London) and “King Kong” (Melbourne), as well as international arena tours of “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Walking with Dinosaurs.” Peter’s architectural design projects include New York City’s 54 Below and the Plaza Hotel, Lake of Dreams at Wynn Las Vegas, and Big Bang Theatre at the American Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

Most recently, Peter’s sound design work could be heard in the Broadway production of “Lempicka’ starring Eden Espinosa.
