BFA TECHNICAL DIRECTION, 2018

Right after graduation, Drew Himmelrich started working at TAIT, the industry leader in providing staging, rigging, and automation for the biggest touring concerts globally, as well as scenic and automation solutions for world-renowned theme parks.  Drew began his career as a Mechanical Design Engineer focusing mostly on automation solutions for touring.  You may have seen his work on tour with Olivia Rodrigo, Eric Church, and Taylor Swift to name a few.

After working four years in Engineering, Drew transitioned to the Integration Department to get back to working with his hands and taking projects to the finish line.  Along with his growing tool collection, Drew is always excited to face the new and unpredictable challenges that come with working onsite on high profile projects and often leans on his experience and education from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama when coming up with and executing solutions.  Some of his favorite quotes from school that he still uses include “If you draw everything it will work,” “Why isn’t this a 2×4,” and “Life is open notes.”  When he is not on the road, you can find Drew building furniture in his woodshop in Lancaster.

“Whenever someone asks me how I got into this industry, the simple answer is CMU. The longer answer is that CMU showed me how I can make my passion a career and that is probably the greatest lesson I learned in school.”
