Alon Moradi

Director

2025, he/him BFA Drama, Directing

Alon Moradi is a Persian Jewish director and creative entrepreneur dedicated to interpreting existing narratives and crafting original stories that unite people. Curiosity and compassion drive his multidisciplinary perspective drawing inspiration from philosophy, psychology, literature, and visual art.

As the child of Iranian immigrants in the United States, Alon is drawn to stories that embrace our ambiguities, contradictions, and dualities—ranging from the internalized fantasies and fears of the individual to their reflections in our collective consciousness. A particular focus of his work is an interest in interpreting “Americana” through the lens of the diaspora, reshaping its place within the larger Western canon. He seeks to reimagine these narratives, while expanding their scope and introducing new voices in ways that allow their core and spirit to resonate anew. Alon is especially fascinated by the interplay between high-brow and low-brow art, finding creative tension and meaning in the space between them.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Alon earned his BFA from the John Wells Directing Program and complemented his studies with the coursework of the Business Administration minor at the Tepper School of Business. During his time in New York City in 2024, he served as a directing intern to Gabriel Barre for the Off-Broadway musical A Sign of the Times and as a directing observer to Jess McLeod for the reading of Asilomar at Manhattan Theatre Club. That spring, he was the Directing and Producing Intern at Red Bull Theater, where he provided directing support for workshop productions including Hamlet (dir. Nathan Winkelstein, in collaboration with NYU Playwrights Horizons Studio), The Rover with Santino Fontana (dir. GT Upchurch), and Titus Andronicus with Patrick Page (dir. Jesse Berger).

For his senior capstone at the School of Drama, Alon directed a production of Harold Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter. He also maintains a strong interest in cross-cultural leadership. In the summer of 2024, he was awarded a scholarship to serve as the Directing Apprentice at the Prague Summer Nights festival, where he worked with an internationally diverse group of young artists and assisted Garnett Bruce on Le Nozze di Figaro at the Estates Theater. Alon has also been awarded a scholarship for educational travel to Poland in the summer of 2025 through the Classrooms Without Borders program, advancing his commitment to global artistic exchange.
