Media Manager, Video & Media Design


Alex Young is an interdisciplinary media artist, writer, curator, and educator whose research-based practice examines ruderal ecologies, systems, species, and spaces as well as forms of human and other-than-human co-creation.

Alex’s work encompasses a wide variety of media, including: digital practices, video, sound, scent, installation, and sculpture. Alex has worked in a diverse range of capacities within the arts, media, and academia for over two decades, including: Gallery Manager for Big Orbit Gallery (a former experimental media, installation, and performance art venue in Buffalo, NY); Managing Editor for Drain Magazine; serving on the Board of Directors for Epsilon Spires (an experimental media, art, and performance venue in Brattleboro, VT); and previous appointments at Carnegie Mellon University in the School of Art and Miller Institute for Contemporary Art. As a curator, Alex has produced exhibitions and programming for SixtyEight Art Institute, Copenhagen, DK; Museum of Contemporary Art, Tucson; and San Diego Art Institute among others. Alex’s solo and collaborative work has been presented internationally at numerous venues, including: 4GROUND: Midwest Land Art Biennial; Beyond/ In Western New York Biennial; Kiasma Museum, Helsinki, FI; Spanien 19C, Aarhus, DK; ACC Galerie, Weimar, DE; Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Buffalo.

Alex holds an MFA from the University at Buffalo, SUNY and BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. They have been based in Pittsburgh since 2015.
