Carlos Martínez

Pre-College Directing Faculty


Carlos Martinez (he/him) is a Dominican-born director, designer, translator and a John Wells Directing Fellow at CMU (Class of 2025). Most recently, he directed Lonely Planet at CMU and was the assistant director for Brian Quijada’s Somewhere Over the Border at City Theatre, Pittsburgh. As the founding artistic director of Punto Zeta Productions, Carlos has directed the Spanish-language productions of Metamorphoses, Masque of the Red Death, Art, Noises Off, and Morir Soñando. He also translated and directed the first Dominican production of The 25th AnnualPutnam County Spelling Bee. Studying Production Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Carlos was the assistant director of The Lucas Show and the sound effects designer for Men on Boats. Performance experience includes: Musical Comedy Murders of 1940, Oliver!, and Beauty and the Beast. As a director based in Santo Domingo, Carlos is constantly looking for canonical works that can be reimagined to challenge established norms in the Dominican Republic.
